Our journey as apprentices to Jesus is frequently misunderstood. Sadly, the initial fires of passion for Jesus and personal holiness can shrink into mere embers of frustration. And often passion is simply stalled by disorientation or flattened by lack of genuine, biblical direction beyond the “go to church, read your bible and pray” style of application. It was these frustrating realities that prompted Scot Pollok, with the help of many others, to create FaithPath as an inspiring, holistic discipleship portrait. The accompanying print resources serve to establish FaithPath as a paradigm and then flesh out discipleship of Jesus in specific ways. They have always been, and will always be, totally free and available. We pray they inspire and activate a robust pursuit of Jesus: being with Him, becoming like Him, and doing as He did. This short book is an attempt to explain and apply the profound beauty of God’s grace toward you. But, the best we can hope for from any work on God’s grace is just a good scratch on its surface. In a way, we will aim to do a good job exploring the top of a great iceberg, all the while learning there is much more below the surface. Learning how to spend time with Jesus is perhaps the most important aspect of Christian discipleship after the starting point of placing your faith in Jesus for salvation. This step involves several specific practices and pursuits that will occupy the rest of your life, such as worship, prayer, fasting, Scripture study and many others. While one can achieve great success in these things, complete mastery is always out of reach. You will always be a learner in this area. Spending unhurried time with Jesus your Master is critical to becoming like Him. Remember, That is the first thing mentioned in Mark 3:14, “that they would be with Him.” Believer, please hear me—in Jesus Christ, you are invited to the head table. Laid before you in God’s Word is the most delicious and nutritious buffet of delights you can imagine. Nothing is off limits, nothing is reserved, nothing has a price tag. This study is a part of your discipleship. It will help you tell your story of personal faith in Jesus Christ. It will also help you tell the story, the Gospel message, and equip you to engage people in Gospel-centered conversations. Together, these practices are an essential part of your discipleship. No follower of Jesus is fully equipped or maximally fruitful without learning and living out these two simple practices. This Bible study has a simple but large goal: to dismantle a string of misunderstandings and lies that keep far too many Christians on the sidelines of joy and engagement in the local church. The regrettable but fixable fact is, most (and I do really mean most) believers in the local church struggle to discover and enjoy the nique place God has designed for them. This place is far more beautiful, far deeper, far more lifegiving than simply a cushioned seat in a large room, one day a week. It is a place of the best relationships you’ve ever had, the most eternal impact, the greatest influence and the most robust joy.
