Big Questions One Way

Scripture: John 13:36-14:6

In the final hours before the cross, Jesus offers His disciples a profound promise wrapped in the imagery of an ancient Jewish wedding: ‘I go to prepare a place for you.’ This message invites us into one of the most comforting truths of our faith—that even when life feels chaotic and out of control, God has a plan, that plan is not in danger, and that plan is good. Drawing from John 13 and 14, we’re reminded that Jesus speaks to believers with tender assurance, calling us ‘little children’ as He prepares to walk a path only He can walk—the way of the cross. Peter’s bold declaration that he would lay down his life for Jesus is met with a sobering prophecy of denial, yet Jesus doesn’t condemn; instead, He comforts. The wedding metaphor resonates deeply: just as a Jewish groom would leave to prepare a room in his father’s house and return when everything was ready, Jesus has gone to prepare our eternal dwelling. When the fires of trial start in our lives—and they will—we’re called to remember that the Groom is working, the plan is unfolding, and nothing catches our Father by surprise. This isn’t just about heaven someday; it’s about trusting the process now, even when we can’t see the finished room.
